See a Sunset at Mount Bonnell

It’s effortless to lose yourself in the outside without going away from Austin’s city limits, but it’s well worth taking the five-minute drive west from the downtown area to get a very awe-inspiring ethereal view of the total encompassing hill country. It’s a brief hike from the street side parking area to the 236m limestone mountain’s summit, known locally as Covert Park, which contributes an amazing aerial view of the Pennybacker Bridge, Lake Austin and the magnificent green hills beyond.

Swim at Barton Springs Pool

Sixty-eight degrees might seem too cold for a dip, but in Austin and the endless summers, this natural spring pool is Austin’s most popular designation to cool off. Plant yourself on thegreen slopes surrounding the three-acre pool, which is always crowded on a pretty day with high schoolers playing hooky.

Take a Stand-Up Paddleboarding Lesson

Residents of Austin will do anything to enjoy downtown’s famous Lady Bird Lake, and it is the perfect place to try Austin’s newest craze, stand-up paddleboarding. It may seem initially unusual, but the casual sport is an easy and enjoyable way to enjoy the skyline from the lake, and receive a surprisingly active core workout at the same time.

Hit the Trail

The 10 mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, which is commonly known as “The Trail” helps to create a circuit around the serene inner-city shores of Lady Bird Lake and happens to be Austin’s most popular recreational attraction. They receive more than 1.5 million visitors per year. Both the long-term residents and tourists enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lakeside paths
Wander Through the Cathedral of Junk of Austin

In the beautiful and bustling neighborhood of Bouldin Creek between South Congress and South 1st, the famed local “yardist” Vince Hannemann created a very self-proclaimed Cathedral of Junk . This cathedral is a three-story structure made from a collection of more than 5 dozen tonnes of reclaimed bicycle and auto parts, mismatched pairs of crutches and about everything else you could imagine.
